The Kotychi – Strofylia Wetlands Management Body is a public utility Legal Person that is governed by Private Law that is supervised by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change. It is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors whose composition ensures representation by central government (Ministries), local government at all levels (Regions and Principalities), the productive classes, the Environmental Organisations and the Scientific Community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Management Bodies are designated in accordance with article 15 pursuant Development” and include:
a. The establishment and responsibility for implementing the management and operational regulations for the protected objectives, as well as the management plans that are specified under article 18 paragraph 5 pursuant to Law 1650/1986, as it has been amended by this law.
b. The monitoring and evaluation of implementing the regulatory conditions and restrictions that are imposed by the decrees in paragraphs 1 and 2 under article 21 pursuant to Law 1650/1986, as well as the management and operational regulations and the management plans that are referred at article 18 paragraph 5 pursuant to Law 1650/1986, in accordance with the more specific determinations under article 21 paragraph 4 pursuant to Law 1650/1986, as it is amended by this law. Within this context, the management bodies ensure for the collection, classification and processing of environmental information and data in their areas of responsibility, as well as establishing and operating relevant documents and databases, in accordance with the existing national standards. In order to perform this function, the management bodies cooperate with the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change, are the competent Ministries, Tertiary Institutions, research centres and institutes, non-government organisations and other public or private organisations.
The above figures, data and information is communicated and included in the National Environmental Information System that operates at the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change.
c. Providing advice prior to spatial preapproval and the approval of the environmental conditions for projects and activities in their areas of responsibility, as well as any other matter upon which they are consulted by the competent authorities.
d. Assisting the competent administrative and judicial authorities in monitoring the implementation of the environmental legislation and the environmental and town planning conditions that apply or are respectively imposed for projects or activities that are conducted in their areas of responsibility. In relation to this purpose, the management bodies suggest or report to the competent authorities those actions or omissions that constitute a violation of the conditions and restrictions that have been stipulated in the Presidential Decrees at paragraphs 1 and 2 under article 21 pursuant to Law 1650/1986 for their areas of responsibility. In relation to this purpose, the management bodies shall make the necessary resources and personnel available to the competent authorities for enforcing decisions that impose sanctions or other matters for protecting the area.
e. Preparing studies and investigations, as well as carrying out technical or other projects, which are included in the relevant management plan and the respective action plans and which are necessary for protecting, conserving, restoring and enhancing the protected objectives that come under their area of responsibility. Constructing, repairing, and maintaining the necessary infrastructure projects, as well as providing the necessary scientific and technical equipment for carrying out the management functions.
f. Undertaking the preparation or performance of national or European programs and actions that are related to their area of responsibility, which promote or highlight the purposes of managing the protected objectives.
g. Informing, educating and training the population on issues relating to the responsibilities and purposes of the management bodies, as well as the protection of their areas of responsibility. Within this context, the management bodies may establish information centres at the headquarters of the protected objectives, organise educational and training programs in cooperation with other competent public or private agencies, as well as conferences, workshops, training seminars and other informative events for promoting the management’s objectives and achievements and to undertake the relevant print or e-media publishing.
h. Promoting, supporting, organising and implementing ecotourism programs, issuing to guide licences and providing licences for scientific research and technical tests and analysis within the boundaries of the protected objectives, in accordance with the more specific terms and conditions that are stipulated in the Presidential Decrees at paragraphs 1 and 2 under article 21 pursuant to Law 1650/1986 and in the regulation for managing and operating the protected objectives. To provide a quality and cooperation label to enterprises that operate within the protected objectives, in accordance with the terms and conditions that are imposed in the regulation for managing and operating the protected area.
i. To manage public areas that have been assigned to the body or which are leased by the management body in accordance with the current provisions, and to also lease private areas that are included in its area of responsibility and to implement the provisions in the relevant management and operational regulations and the management plan for necessary interventions.
